Melly has always been passionate about the ocean. Born in May 1997, growing up in Germany, she spent most of her summer holidays sailing with her family around the baltic sea. Diving has always come naturally to her and her happy place has always been under the surface.
During her education she received a scholarship from Erasmus + and completed an internship on Malta in a Scuba Diving / Outdoor Activity Center. She finished the first two Scuba qualifications and fell in love with the idea of becoming a Scuba diving instructor. She spent her second scholarship in Tenerife at another Scuba diving center. Certifications like Rescue diver, Nitrox diver, and Divemaster followed. Not only has she absolved all her certifications at the center, but she has also worked full-time as an assistant there. She went from being a non-diver to a fully educated and experienced Divemaster in less than a year.
If Melly puts her mind on a task, nothing will stop her from achieving it.
Why would you be spending the summer holidays being lazy, when you can use it to educate yourself instead?
In the year of 2018, Melly went back to Malta to work as a Divemaster.
This was next to her job as a Bartender, Waitress, and full-time education in Tourism.
But still there was something missing, something far greater. It was the longing for a greater depth.
Melly started training with a group of freedivers and soon realized that she does not only have a massive passion for that sport, but she also has real talent for it. From now on, in every second that she didn't spend working or studying, she spent in Hamburg's pools, training her breath-hold and her freediving techniques.
Freediving has already taken over a major part of Melly’s life, as she became assistant of the german world record holder in static and dynamic freediving. Together with Tom Sietas they have organized a workshop in Greece with a focus on mental strength, breathhold and freediving techniques. Melly took care of various tasks, which included: teaching freediving techniques, as well as yoga and meditation, organizing the schedule of the workshop and assisting the instructor during the course.
Directly after the Workshop, she spent one month in Dahab (Egypt), the mecca of freediving. She got trained by one of the best Freediving Coaches in the world, Harry Chamas. Not only was she able to learn more about the physics of freediving, different training approaches, and the general context of training for deeper dives; she has increased her personal best from a depth of 30m to a depth of 50m (164ft) within this month.
Melly was finally able to focus on freediving full-time, after she has finished her specified economic high school degree. She has been assisting different workshops and seminars about freediving, while she was still working in a scuba diving center in Germany,
Yet it was time for her to finally do her Instructor certificate. There couldn't be a better teacher than the danish world record holder Jesper Stechmann. Melly has spent 3 months living, working, and teaching freediving at Innerdive - Gozo.
Meanwhile, she has started her first professional underwater photoshoot with the well-known underwater photographer Vaclav Krpelik.
With the choice to move to Malta, Melly encountered great new opportunities.
Having started a new job as a Customer Support Agent, she was able to move to Malta and finally dive everyday.
She got to work with different photographers and teach freediving at Innerdive. Modeling at photoshoots with depths greater than 30m, swimming in the ocean with thousands of tunas, and shooting in strong currents gave her lots of experience and confidence in the world underwater.
Due to her great experience and knowledge in scuba diving and freediving she got casted for a movie to be the stunt double for the main actress. She got the part and Melly spent 3 months filming an international diving thriller.
Little did she know this opportunity would transform her whole life into an even bigger adventure.
Melly was able to get multiple jobs underwater because of her passion and talent for diving, modeling and acting.
One of these jobs includes another movie working as an underwater stunt double.
She went to Bulgaria to work as an underwater dancer for an international cosmetic brand and another job as a diving model for one of the biggest technology companies worldwide.
Being able to embrace her passion for freediving and diving in front of a camera is one of Mellys biggest blessings.
Years of hard work and thousands of hours of training have flown into her work. Her goal is to always improve, to learn and develop new skills, to create new mesmerizing images of this beautiful world under the surface,
and to dive even deeper into cinematic creations.
